HAHAHA. Gwen and Merlin’s reactions to this confession.

lol i think that confession makes a good point but tbh there’s no tangible attraction between me and any of my friends but if they saw me naked i would react the same as he did with gwen. i wouldn’t be like “oh so this is my vagina” and carry on just because we don’t have physical tension.

I agree that the confession has a point because we did see that Arthur may have been more at ease walking around naked with Merlin in the room, thus the lack of physical tension. But neither is it a proof that there isn’t any tangible attraction between them, hypothetically speaking.
The way I see it, the ease with which Arthur supposedly carries himself (naked) in front of Merlin and not Gwen are due to:
1) Merlin has been his manservant for years at that time. So it’s safe to assume that it’s not exactly novel between them.
2) Merlin is a man and Gwen is a woman. Wait, hear me out. I’m not being sexist, but all things considered, there may be an increased level of embarrassment felt at having been caught naked by someone of the opposite sex. (Whilst I would just freak out all over at being seen naked lol).
3) My shipper heart argues that the lack of tension may be due to the fact that they’ve been walking around naked in front of each other for years so it’s not big deal. JUST SAYING. XD
So yeah. That scene, for me at least, is neither a proof of the lack of attraction between Arthur and Merlin nor the presence thereof between Arthur and Gwen.

Yeah exactly! The way Arthur reacts to Gwen here is like a continuation of that awkwardness between them from around S2 time when they were ~starting out~ and stuff, but what with the extremity of this situation (Arthur completely naked in front of someone he’s known for years, in whatever context he’s known them) it’s not really an example of the attraction between Arthur and Gwen - for me, anyway. Embarrassment on the part of both of them is the natural reaction for anyone in that situation. I imagine if this was Arthur and Merlin, and Merlin was the one naked (taking away the shipper headcanon which I do agree with you on anyway but still), then Arthur’s reaction would have been the same as Gwen’s was, and Merlin would probably have been just as embarrassed as Arthur.

I agree! The fact is that it is an all around awkward situation and whatever reactions the characters had at that moment were perfectly normal. And as you’ve said, even if it had been Merlin who was naked and Arthur or Gwen saw him, I’m assuming the reaction would’ve been the same. :)
